Abstract

Euphorbia subgen. Esula contains about 480 species. In the process of its phytogeographical analysis carried out earlier 29 elements combined into 10 groups of elements were separated. Among them, 85 species belong to the Mediterranean element. The work is devoted to the more deep phytogeographical analysis of these species. A floristic province was chosen as the basic phytochorion. As a result of the analysis, 13 geographic elements (of which 7 are pluriregion-al) were identified, combined into 3 groups of elements. Most of the analyzed species were quite clearly divided into two groups of elements - the Western Mediterranean and the Eastern Mediterranean, and the species belonging to the first group are somewhat predominant. Among the elements of the Western Mediterranean group, the species attributed to the Ligurian-Tyrene element are noticeably distinguished, and most of them are somehow connected with the islands located on the territory of the corresponding province, and only two are found exclusively in the mainland. About half of the eastern Mediterranean species are fairly widespread, and there are relatively few island endemic species. Mediterranean species belong to 11 sections out of 21 adopted in the subgenus Esula.
