Abstract. Civic identity is one ofthe most important identities ofthe individual. Its structure
includes a number ofcomponents: cognitive, emotional, behavioral, symbolic, which explains its

complexity and ambiguity. During the formation ofidentity, all components require attention,
including emotion, having a diverse range ofemotions, based on the relation ofthe ideal image
ofidentity to reality. e article presents the results ofa sociological survey conducted infour bor-
der regions: Kaliningrad region, Voronezh region, Altai region and Khabarovsk region, (N=1753).
e article analyses the manifestation ofthe civic identity ofthe population ofborder regions, as
well as assessment ofthe emotional aspect ofcivic identity from the standpoint ofsocio-demo-
graphic characteristics.
