Abstract. e article is devoted to theproblem ofdisproportion inthe regional develop-
ment ofthe national republics ofAsian Russia: theRepublic ofAltai, theRepublic ofBuryatia,
theRepublic ofSakha (Yakutia), theRepublic ofTyva, theRepublic ofKhakassia. e problems
ofdemographic development ofregions (decrease inaverage life expectancy and theshare ofthe
population, including Russian, “Western” migration trend), quality oflife (decrease inincome and
employment), development ofindustry and agriculture are considered. e empirical basis ofthe
study was a comparative analysis ofindicators ofaverage life expectancy at birth, average per cap-
ita income, employment and unemployment levels based on Rosstat data. e results ofresearch
by Russian sociologists studying these regions were used as secondary sources ofinformation.
Aserious lag inthe quality oflife ofthe national regions ofthe Siberian and Far Eastern districts
from theRussian average has been revealed. e conclusion is made about theneed to overcome
theview ofAsian Russia as an exclusively resource storehouse.
