Some Approaches to Understanding

Abstract. e article studies thespeci cs ofunderstanding biblical historicism inthe Rus-
sian culture ofthe XIX century from theperspective ofthe Orthodox Christian worldview, notes
therole ofreligion, thetexts ofHoly Scripture on theideological and artistic dramaturgy ofworks.
It is established that there is no general approach insocial and humanitarian knowledge that
would allow determining theforms and results ofthe reception ofthis phenomenon inart. e
purpose ofthe article is to illustrate thethesis that inRussian culture biblical historicism follows
from theperception ofhistory as a drama ofhuman relations with theCreator. e historical path
ofthe sacred relationship between God and man is presented as a historical event about theexit
ofGod to man and theascent ofman to God. e factors offormation ofideas about theHoly
Scripture inRussia are considered. It is noted that thepeculiarity ofthe situation was that theXIX
century was a time ofprofessionalization ofhistorical research. However, it is during this period
that thedi erence is determined.
