Abstract. e article presents theanalysis ofproblems ofalcoholization ofthe population
ofthe Republic ofBuryatia inthe conditions ofdepressive development ofthe regional economy,
conducted on thebasis ofexpert interviews with medical specialists ofdi erent pro les— ther-
apist, preventologist, psychiatrist-drug addict, anesthesiologist-reanimatologist, gastroenterolo-
gist. e socio-economic factors causing alcoholization ofthe population ofthe region have been
identi ed, including unemployment, lack ofemployment prospects, shi work, borrowing, and
theuse offamily income (pensions and child allowances) to buy alcoholic beverages by thepoor.
Among other negative factors contributing to thealcoholization ofthe population, experts noted
thehigh availability ofalcoholic beverages, theuse ofalcohol to increase thetourist attractiveness
ofthe region and inthe advertising ofcatering facilities, and theformation ofa tolerant attitude to
alcohol from childhood. e necessity ofstrengthening thecoordinated work ofstate authorities
ofdi erent levels, medical community and public organizations inorder to reduce alcohol con-
sumption indi erent social strata ofthe population is substantiated.
