CERAMICS OF EARLY NEOLITHIC CULTURES OF THE LOWER AMUR BASIN IN THE CONTEXT OF INTERCULTURAL RELATIONS

Abstract

This investigation is based on a comparative analysis of the ceramic material of the Neolithic cultures of the Lower Priamurye – Malyshevo, Kondon, Voznesenskoye – and cultures of neighboring territories of the northeast of China. Technological, morphological and decorative features are persistent markers, that are often preserved in other cultural contexts. Their analysis allows us to partially trace the signs of the interaction of different traditions. Techno-typological and petrographic analysis showed that similar techniques for molding a hollow body and ornamenting a vessel are episodic and many elements, for example, decorating the space under the corolla with platen rollers, appear on the territory of the Lower Amur Region earlier than in the north-east of China, which partially refutes the established the theory of the southern sources of the origin of Far Eastern pottery. Common features that were most widely used in the indicated territory during the Middle-Late Neolithic of the region are the decoration of the entire surface of the vessel with ornaments, the use of stamping, pricking or pulling techniques, the dominance of vertical or horizontal zigzag in the body design.
