Abstract. Nation-building in post-Soviet countries has led to a special interest and return to

cultural roots and family values. Family history and the reconstruction of the family tree quite

predictably ts into the general historical context, which is replete with socially signicant pro-

cesses and events not only for a single family, but in general for the civil communities of the

sovereign states of the former Soviet Union. But for modern youth, the most urgent problem

is the restoration of family ties, rethinking memorial memory, emotional experiences of real or

imaginary memories. In this regard, it can be argued that the relevance of research in the eld

of reproduction and preservation of historical memory in the form of a family tree of family

stories in a digital society is only increasing. Individual memories and collective memory are in

dynamic unity, but they undergo serious changes when passed on to subsequent generations.

Media communication technologies make it possible to seriously adjust the strength of individual

and collective experiences. ey can signicantly aect the content of historical memory and the

formation of a value judgment about it. e modern generation of young people has grown up

in new socio-political and socio-economic conditions. Signicant historical events of the Soviet

past are not part of their personal experience. Family history, values and pedigree are the link

to the collective memory. anks to collective and family memory, an individual maintains his

connection with society. In the era of the formation of a digital society, the interpretation of the

historical past, family history, the glorication of individual episodes and the silence of painful

memories leads to the construction of the past, in which the focus of assessing the consequences

is shied by the individual arbitrarily. e use of media increases the eectiveness and eciency

in preserving family values among young people. e article presents research data based on the

results of a sociological survey of the project’s target audience (students aged 18-24 years living

in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan). e survey results conrm the interest of young

people in recreating family stories, in general and in the form of media products, in particular.
