data from automated monitoring using the Brand Analytics system, conducted between April
14 and 28, 2025: during the study period, 110,918 messages were received, 66,732 authors were
involved, and the total engagement was 2,200,137 (the sum of comments, likes, and shares). In
terms of message sources, the most active are social networks (104,610, with the highest activity
on VKontakte), followed by online media (3,121), messaging channels (1,117), messaging chats
(933), blogs (665), videos (151), and forums (135). In terms of authors, the majority are personal
accounts (78,462), communities (28,287), and media (1,007). e data was collected within the
topic using the tags formulated by the authors: Orthodoxy, Islam, Slavic paganism, and Protes-
tantism. Additionally, ageneral index of user network activity on religious topics was calculated
in the Volga Federal District (14 regions).
e study identied key topics and engagement dynamics in religious discussions on social
media platforms, and determined the most resonant messages based on the type of source (ac-
cording to the engagement index). e highest author activity in absolute terms was observed in
the Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, and Perm regions. e results of the study show that religious and
non-religious communities actively shape religious media discourse in the digital context, oen
combining traditional beliefs with modern communication strategies, including emotional ap-
peals, community building stories, and interactive content. It is concluded that, on the one hand,
the mediatization of religion has led to afairly high level of inclusion of religious communities
representing religious institutions in social media, and on the other hand, we see atrend where
secular communities and authors are also interested in religious issues, using social media as plat-
forms for promoting religious culture.
