Abstract

The article presents information on the study of the kinetics of the hydrolysis process to establish the optimal conditions for the determination of glucose in the presence of acid catalysts. The residues of coniferous wood pulp after processing of raw materials were used as objects of research. Hydrolysis was carried out at atmospheric pressure, temperature 100 ˚C for 5 hours. 2n hydrogen chloride and 2n orthophosphoric acid were used as catalysts. The glucose content in the hydrolysates was determined by thin layer chromatography followed by densitometric detection. The total free carbohydrate content was determined by spectrophotometric method with picric acid in terms of glucose. Calculation of the degree of conversion of wood pulp was carried out after its drying at 103 ˚C to constant weight. Studies showed that after 1 hour of the hydrolysis process the glucose content in the presence of 2n hydrochloric acid was 5.5 times higher than in the presence of 2n orthophosphoric acid and continued to accumulate in the following two hours. Further hydrolysis did not establish a significant change in the accumulation of the target product. As a result of the experiments, the effective rate constants of glucose formation and the degree of conversion of coniferous wood pulp in the presence of 2n hydrochloric and 2n orthophosphoric acids were calculated. It was shown that the hydrolysis process at 100 ˚C in the presence of 2n hydrochloric acid is optimal after 3 hours from the beginning of the reaction. Analysis of the influence of the duration of acid hydrolysis of biopolymers on the example of coniferous wood pulp confirmed the possibility of a controlled process to obtain the target monomer - glucose.
