Abstract

Earlier taxonomic studies of genus Taraxacum in North European Russia were unsatisfactory, considering presumable high taxonomic diversity of this group and specific evolutionary history within this area. Beginning with 2016, and in more detail since 2021, the author has started taxonomical inventory research of this group in North European Russia, including North-Western Regions, Tver’ Region and the City of Saint-Petersburg. The overall picture of earlier taxonomical studies is outlined in the present paper. Estimates of the presently recorded diversity for separate Regions are presented in line with the information available in the literature for other better-studied regions of the World. The aims of the further research are prioritized, a short review of the main results achieved since 2016 is presented. The research is primarily herbarium-based. During the fieldwork since 2016, 4372 herbarium specimens have been collected. The main routes of Taraxacum collection along with the detailzations of the numbers of herbarium specimens collected in various administrative Regions and Districts of North European Russia is presented.
