Abstract

This article examines the role of fishing in the economic life of the Cossacks of Kazakhstan. As is known, four Cossack troops were formed on the territory of Kazakhstan – Orenburg, Siberian, Ural, and Semirechensk. The size of the Cossack land use was quite large. The basis of Cossack land ownership and land use was the conservative feudal estate law – «land for service». However, along with agriculture, in the XIX century, one of the main types of economic activity of the Cossacks was fishing. This ancient type of management has acquired great importance in the economy of the Cossacks.
