Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the main directions of theimplementation of state-confessional policy in the south of Western Siberia in 1965–1982. On the basis of legal documents and archival data, the practice of regulating the registration of religious communities in the region is investigated. During the period of the governance by Leonid Brezhnev, the softening of the previous policy of N.S. Khrushchev in the field of state- confessional relations is traced. During the period, the process of registration of religious communities is resumed. At the same time, initially the 70 authorities focused on the legalization of the Protestant communities, which further contributed to the predominance of the officially launched Protestant associations in the Western Siberia. In addition, the authorities tried to control the Pentecostal communities and the Council of Churches of Evangelical Christians-Baptists, which opposed the legalization. The article shows peculiarities of situation in the Christian and Muslim associations of believers, in particular, the registration process, economic, social, and demographic changes within communities, religious upbringing of children and the education of clergy.
