Abstract

The article attempts to consider the gender aspect in the maternity ritual of the Tuvans. In the traditional Tuvan society, the socialization of children took place with the gradual development of gender norms, roles and stereotypes associated with gender identity. From the moment of birth, the child became an object of the influence of the system of gender relations. Also in comparative aspect, the maternity rites of some Turkic-Mongolian peoples are considered. The author concludes that the signs and beliefs associated with the predestination of the sex of the unborn child, symbolic birthing rites, contributed to the gender socialization of the child and preparation for the upcoming life in society. In general, the birthing ritual of the TurkicMongolian peoples had similar features, and was aimed at protecting and protecting a pregnant woman and a newborn child mainly.
