TALES AND LEGENDS ABOUT CHANGELLINGS AND SOME ACTUAL PROBLEMS OF MODERN AUTISM
Main Article Content
Abstract
Tales of the substitution of babies in the cradle are widespread among the peoples of Europe. Some stories about such transformations seem so plausible (as far as legends can be plausible) that they cause a desire to check their validity at the level of modern medicine. According to the author, if we discard the fabulous basis of such legends, it is possible to compare them with the symptoms of a fairly common disease in the modern world called autism. This is quite a serious disease, which began to diagnose and try to correct only recently. Our approach in the analysis of folklore can reveal the extent of the disease in ancient times and the middle ages, the possible place of its occurrence, as well as help to identify some misconceptions about the emergence of autism in modern children in the medical environment.
