LEVEL OF INVOLVEMENT OF POPULATION OF THE ALTAI REGION IN CORRUPTION PRACTICES

Abstract

This article assesses the level of population involvement in corrupt practices based on the results of a sociological survey of the urban and rural population of the Altai region (2019, n = 1259). The characterization of the population’s involvement in corrupt practices was carried out in the context of sixteen proposed to respondents situations of their interaction with representatives of government over the past two years. For each situation, indicators of the risk of corruption and the demand for corruption were determined, as well as the coverage of the interaction of the population with representatives of the authorities. As a result of comparing the obtained indicators, some situations were allocated into separate subgroups. The wide coverage of corruption practices among the population of the Altai region over the past two years, permeating all spheres of society’s life, was noted. The proportion of cases of a population falling into a corruption situation over the past two years, depending on the sphere of deal, ranged from 11.3 % to 29.3 %.
