ON THE PROBLEM OF ETHNIC AND CULTURAL IDENTITY OF THE YAKUTS AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURY (LATE XX-EARLY XXI CENTURIES)

Abstract

In the context of the modern globalization, research on the problems of preserving and manifesting identity in all its manifestations: ethnic, religious, linguistic, including ethno-cultural is becoming relevant. This article is based on the materials of sociological survey conducted in a number of republics, including the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) by the Institute of sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1997 and 1999 under the supervision of L. M. Drobizheva. This article indicates that to study the phenomenon of ethno-cultural identity, it is necessary to compare it with ethnic identification. It is important to recognize that ethnic tolerance is based on a positive ethnic identity. Ethnosociological studies confirm the statement that a positive ethnic identity contributes to the growth of tolerance of the ethnic group, the attitude to preserve their own and other ethnic cultures. The historical review carried out by the author of the article shows that from the XIII century to the XX century on the territory of Yakutia there is a variant of ethnic interaction, the formation of the ethnic and cultural identity of the Yakuts.
