Abstract
A comparative analysis of the yields of proanthocyanidins extracted from birch bark (Betula pendula Roth) with water, 15% water-ethanol solution and ethyl acetate in a Soxhlet apparatus was carried out. The average yield of proanthocyanidins during extraction of birch bark husk was, respectively, 1.20 % when extracted with water; 1.44 % with 15% water-alcohol solution and 1.46 % with ethyl acetate in Soxhlet apparatus. The composition of proanthocyanidins isolated by 15 % water-alcohol solution and ethyl acetate in Soxhlet apparatus was studied by UV-, IR- and 13C NMR spectroscopy. It is shown that the composition of the obtained proanthocyanidins contains a galloyl group, which increases the antiradical activity of the obtained substances. It was found that proanthocyanidins of birch bark onion mainly consist of procyanidin and prodelfinidin.
