ASSESSMENT OF INDUSTRIAL SPECIALIZATION IN REGIONS OF EASTERN SIBERIA
УДК 332.122 (571.5)
Abstract
The pace of economic development in regions Siberia depends largely on their industrial specialization, which determines the competitive advantages of these territories. Despite the importance of choosing a specialization strategy as an engine of economic growth, most resource-based regions in the country lack a clear definition of industries specialized at the national and regional levels. This significantly hinders the formulation of support measures aimed at developing such industries. This article evaluates the industrial specialization of regions in Eastern Siberia – namely, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Irkutsk Oblast, the Republic of Khakassia, and the Republic of Tuva. The assessment employs localization coefficients based on four criteria: the industry’s share in gross value added, employment, fixed capital investment, and wage fund.
The assessment of industrial specialization for Eastern Siberia revealed that each region possesses a distinct set of specialized industries of national and regional significance, shaped by its economic potentials. The findings can be used to develop targeted programs for accelerating the growth of specialized industries in each region.
