Abstract

Migration of population is a complex and multifaceted process that plays a crucial role in the formation of the Russian society. Migration issues are becoming especially relevant in border regions of the country. The article presents some of the results of a sociological survey conducted in the Altai krai in 2018–2019. The distribution of answers to the question about the attitudes of population towards migrants differs depending on how long people live in a given settlement. In factor analysis four factors have been identified that describe the opinion of residents on the migration situation in the region. The first and fourth factors point to the presence of latent negative stereotypes towards migrants in the region, to their limitations in their rights and freedoms. The second and third factors characterize the migration situation from a positive point of view. Additionally, we interviewed experts – specialists in the field of migration in the region. According to most of them, the migration situation in the Altai krai is calm and does not cause any problems.
