Abstract
Delignification of wheat straw under ozone treatment has been studied. The dependence of residual lignin content on specific ozone absorption was determined. IR and CR spectroscopy data of straw samples with different degrees of delignification reflect the dynamics of ozonolytic degradation of lignin. Concerted removal of lignin and straw hemicelluloses is shown. No amorphization of cellulose is observed over a wide range of ozone consumption rates. The relationship between ozone consumption and reactivity of ozonized straw in the processes of enzymatic hydrolysis into sugars has been established. The optimum ozone consumption is ~2-3 mol. eq. O3 per phenylpropane structural unit (PPSU) of lignin contained in straw.
