TRADITIONS VS GLOBALIZATION: VALUE ORIENTATIONS OF THE POPULATION OF MODERN KAZAKHSTAN

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the correlation of traditional and global values in the structure of value orientations of the population of modern Kazakhstan, article based on the results of a sociological poll conducted by the Scientific Research Center “Youth” of the Ministry of Religion and Civil Society of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2017. Mass sociological survey was conducted in all 14 regions of the country and in two cities of national importance (Astana and Almaty) on a representative sample of 2000 people. The article presents an analysis of the three main values for the population of Kazakhstan: the family, labor and education and ethnic values. In family values were analyzed leadership in the family, attitude to non-traditional forms of marriage and violence in the family. The values of labor and education studied using the definition of the value of labor in a person’s life, the attitude of the population towards domestic education and attitudes toward obtaining education abroad. Ethnic values were measured by determining the degree of social distance with respect to other ethnic groups, identifying the population’s assessment of the likelihood of ethnic conflicts in the country and analyzing the attitude of the population to national traditions. The authors conclude that in the minds of the population of modern Kazakhstan with entrenched traditional values, modern neighbors that reflect the needs of the modern global world coexist. The article notes that there are differences in the value orientations of different categories of the population, primarily depending on age and ethnicity.
