SPECIFICS OF INTERDEPENDENCE OF CIVIC IDENTIFICATION AND SOCIAL ACTIVITY OF THE POPULATION (ON THE EXAMPLE OF BORDER REGIONS OF RUSSIA)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article presents the analysis of the results of the study of the interrelationship between civic identification and social activity among the population in three border regions – the Altai Krai, the Novosibirsk Oblast and the Altai Republic, conducted in 2019 (sociological surveys among people aged 18-70 years, n=1418). According to the data obtained, it was revealed that depending on the features of manifestation of social activity, the population of the regions can be conditionally divided into two groups. Socially inactive citizens who rarely participate in civic initiatives, who occasionally participate in elections, who moderately realize and fulfill their responsibilities to society, who do not know their rights very well and do not seek to restore them, form the first group. These are potentially active citizens. The other group is socially active citizens, with strong social responsibility, who realize the need to fulfill their obligations to society. The region of residence and the type of social activity (potential or real) are the most important factors determining the civic self-esteem of respondents. It has been revealed that regional differences were more evident in respondents' assessments of the expression of pride in their country and its achievements, the obligation to fulfill the duty to protect the Fatherland, active participation in public life, intolerance towards those who disrespect Russia and its people. The influence of age can be traced in assessments of awareness and fulfillment of one's duties to the society and country, mobility / attachment to one's Motherland, attitude to national symbols, balance of personal and public interests according to the position “I am personally as a citizen”; in assessments of optimistic mood, participation in public life, personal responsibility according to the position of residents of the region, optimism, hope for the state in solving their problems, knowledge and assertion of their rights, expression of patriotic feelings, trust in the authorities, approval of the actions of the state in the region; in assessments of the type of social activity of the respondents. The significance of the type of social activity revealed for all indicators and all assessed positions.
