Abstract

This article reveals and analyzes existential causes for extreme tourism taking asa basis the conceptions, claims and ideas of the most prominent representative of existentialism —К. Jaspers. In result, it distinguish the following existential causes for this kind of tourist activities: 1. existence (self-existence) is concealed from an individual; 2. the essence of existence is in it’sconscientious development; 3. existence in everyday life is misinterpreted by human existence;4. existence is half-opened to an individual in borderline situations; 5. a deeper insight into existenceis carried out by planning and implementing borderline situations not to cope with them but tocope with oneself; 6. conscientious “leaving comfort and security zone” is an activity that may bemotivated at least by the intention to change life and at most by the intention to display one’sindividuality, to transform oneself; 7. existential communication leading to mutual understandingof two or more individuals is possible if there is a common, frst and foremost, borderline situation;8. existential communication as a result of coping with borderline situations leads to displayingone’s and other individuals’ existence as well as to displaying one individual’s selfness throughthat of another individual, and to displaying another individual’s selfness through one’s own.Keywords: extreme tourism, risk, security, existential causes, existentialism,existence, selfness, self-being, freedom, trancedental.
