Delayed marriage and family expectations among young people: between career and personal life

Abstract
The relevance of the research presented in the article is determined by the prevalence of delayed marriage among young people, significant transformations in attitudes towards the institution of the family, which in turn provokes late parenthood and a decrease in the birth rate at the level of the entire Russian society. The purpose of this article is to describe the factors influencing the motives for later creation of a family and marriage. The analysis of the phenomenon of delayed marriage is based on an interdisciplinary approach (economics, sociology, family psychology). The transformation of the youth's attitude towards the institution of the family is described based on an analysis of the institutional and socio-structural aspects. It is concluded that career ambitions, the level of socio-psychological readiness and a change in the perception of the institution of marriage determine a later marriage. It is noted that young people perceive marriage as a personal choice, differentially relate to family values, and justify an increase in the age of childbirth. The results of the study indicate the need to review social policy aimed at creating conditions for the harmonious combination of career and family values among Russian youth.
