Abstract

Understanding how people of different ages and different generations define criteria for a prosperous life can become an important link in the development of targeted social programs that take into account changing needs at various stages of ontogenesis. The aim of the work is to identify and compare the structure of ideas about a prosperous life in general and in old age among different age groups of the population. The information base is data from a regional sociological study of the quality of life and well-being of the population conducted by the VolSC RAS in the Vologda Region in 2025. The following indicators were analyzed: ideas about a prosperous life, the locus of responsibility in achieving well-being, the desire for changes in life, ideas about a prosperous old age, and practices for achieving well-being in old age. The study revealed the cross-cutting determinants of well-being - health, financial stability and family ties - in the perception of all age groups, but their interpretation depends on the stage of the life cycle. Young people associate well-being with active self-realization and freedom, while elderly people emphasize maintaining functionality through access to medicine and financial security. Socio-psychological aspects remain peripheral, reflecting the influence of age stereotypes on the narrowing of social roles. The obtained results can be applied for scientific substantiation and support of management decisions aimed at improving the quality of life and psychological well-being of different age groups of the population, including representatives of the older generation.
