EXPERIENCE OF RECONSTRUCTION HORSE-MASK OF EARLY PAZYRYK CULTURE
Abstract
Pazyryk culture of Altai is widely known for its unique preservation of things from Pazyryk barrows. In those burial mounds horse headgears with zoomorphic tops, that transforming horses to the afterworld were found. As part of the Pazyryk Scythian period known as the elite barrows in the Central Altai: Bashadarskie and Tuektinskie burial mounds with permafrost beneath barrows. Almost all of them looted, and finds in them are mixed, but on circumstantial evidence, it is clear that there were also burial places of horses in horse-masks. However, accurate information about the nature of their attachment to the horse’s head and a structure - does not exist, special studies and reconstructions in historiography is extremely small. Described unpublished fragments of horse-masks from the First Tuektinskij barrow (collection number 2179, the State Hermitage). The aim of this work was to create a horse mask with wooden tops, imitating horns of a mountain goat, the prototype of which served as the archaeological finds from the First Tuektinskij barrow. We used an x-ray fluorescence analysis of metal components, studied leather under the microscope, made analysis of wooden tops. On the basis of established graphic reconstruction, horse headgears in full size were made.
