EXPERIENCE OF COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE ARMOUR OF WARRIORS OF THE XIONGNU AND XIANBEI TIMES OF THE SAYAN AND ALTAI MOUNTAINS AND TIAN SHAN

Abstract

Article considers the evolution of protective armament, including metallic armour in the composition of weapon complexes of the ancient nomads of the Sayan and Altai Mountains in the end of the 1stmillennium В.С. - the 1st half of the 1st millennium A.D. That evolution occurred under the influence of the nomadic unions of Central Asian ethnoses of the Xiongnu and Xianbei people. Consideration is given to the findings of armour plates in the Bulan-Kobin, Kok-Pash and Berel monuments in the territory of the Altai Mountains region; to the influence of the ancient nomads of Central Asia on development of the armour of nomadic tribes residing in the Altai Mountains in the Xiongnu and Xianbei times. Comparative analysis of protective armament of the nomads residing in the Altai Mountains and Tian Shan during that period allowed the authors to find out that the ancient nomads of Southern Siberia came under the influence in weapon manufacture from the direction of the Xiongnu and Xianbei people. At the same time no influence is traced in this sphere from the nomadic tribes of Tian Shan.
