FINAL MIDDLE PALEOLITHIC INDUSTRIES OF SOUTH-EAST DAGESTAN
Abstract
The article presents the results of investigation of Middle Paleolithic complex from Darvagchai geoarchaeological area, with the material supplying the data on this cultural chronological stage in the territory of North-East Caucasus. Levallois technology and typical Middle Paleolithic tool assemblage characterize lithic material. The middle size artifacts made of homogenous raw material with similar degree of surface preservation and treated by one technological tradition predominate. Specifics of technological and typological character of this industry, with the pronounced Levallois technology let us refer to the special features of Paleolithic in Maritime Dagestan. The research of final Middle Paleolithic is very important for understanding of appearance and development of anthropologically modern human. It makes it possible to reconstruct cultural historical process in this territory during Pleistocene, and to shed the light on the problem of contents and shift of the boundaries between Paleolithic cultural chronological stages of the Caucasus and Aral-Caspian basin in general.
