Abstract

In 1954, large-scale excavations of large barrows by archaeological expeditions led by S.I. Rudenko and S.V. Kiselev began in two South Siberian regions. The author of this article has the same deep respect for the scientific works of these outstanding Russian archaeologists. The article considers the history of expeditionary work and scientific research of the two archaeologists in 1954–1962, who belonged to two different scientific schools, different in age and living in different cities. During excavations of the Big Salbyk barrow in Khakassia, S.V. Kiselev paid more attention to studying the ground structure of this object but did not have time to fully publish the results of his work. S.I. Rudenko only partially excavated the stone embankments of the large and middle Tuekta barrows, but paid the main attention to the burial chamber and finds of objects, and also fully published the results of his research. Each of these archaeologists had their own achievements, their discoveries and finds were included in the funds of science, museums and archaeological literature.
