Abstract

The article describes and examines archaeological materials from excavation No. 1 of 2018 at the cult site Toropovo-7A in the valley of the river Kasma in the Kuznetsk basin. The results of field and office studies of a unique object are published — dwellings with an attached cellar, as well as archaeological finds discovered during its excavations. According to observations and descriptions, the dwelling was reconstructed, which is a half-dugout with a canopy with self-supporting walls (made of logs or wicker filled with soil) oriented to the cardinal points. Externally and in detail (entrance from the eastern side, a hearth with a chimney in the corner to the right of the entrance, the presence of canopy), the object under study almost completely coincides with the ethnographic descriptions of the dwellings of the indigenous inhabitants of the Kuznetsk basin — Shors and Teleuts and their closest neighbors in adjacent territories. The paleozoological collection from the dwelling and cellar has a ratio of skeletal remains of domestic ungulates — E. caballus (53%), B. taurus (29%) and O. aries (18%), which indirectly indicates the increased role of B. Taurus in the household and changes in diet. According to the results of a comparative analysis of classified types from the collection of finds of ceramic dishes, the object under study was dated to the 13th–14th centuries and assigned to the Shandin archaeological culture. The results obtained make it possible to clarify the dating of the archaeological heritage site Toropovo-7A and interpret it as a single cultural and chronological complex, consisting of family cult sites and settlements of the Mongolian period of history.
