ALEXANDER SAZONOVICH SURAZAKOV: BIOGRAPHY, ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL STUDIES, VIEWS, IDEAS, CONCEPTS
Abstract
At the very end of last year, the famous Altai archaeologist Alexander Sazonovich Surazakov (1948–2018) celebrated his 75th birthday. The article reflects brief biographical information, and also notes some results of his scientific and other activities. A.S. Surazakov was a versatile and extraordinary personality, a detailed assessment of which is yet to be made. However, his contribution to the Altai archaeology is of special importance. This was reflected not only in numerous expeditions and discoveries, in the defence of his PhD thesis and publication of scientific works, but also in his administrative work, first as head of the archaeological sector of the Gorno-Altaisk Scientific Research Institute of History, Language and Literature, and then as director of the Agency for Cultural and Historical Heritage under the Committee of Culture of the Altai Republic. The main directions of A.S. Surazakov’s research activities in the field of studying the Pazyryk culture, as well as other achievements that require detailed comprehension are separately noted.
