Аннотация

В 2021 г. исполняется 100 лет со дня рождения выдающейся американской исследовательницы Бетти Меггерс (1921-2012 гг.), которая внесла неоценимый вклад в изучение археологических древностей Эквадора, Бразилии, Венесуэлы, Чили и других стран Латинской Америки. В обширном списке ее научных заслуг (в сотрудничестве с супругом, археологом Клиффордом Эвансом) следует особо отметить создание хронологической шкалы и периодизации древних культур прибрежной части Эквадора, сохраняющих свою актуальность и в настоящее время. Имя Б. Меггерс чаще всего упоминается в контексте дискуссионной гипотезы «дзёмон-вальдивия» о возможности трансокеанских контактов между населением Японского архипелага и обитателями тихоокеанского побережья Южной Америки около 6-5,5 тыс. л. н., которую она с коллегами сформулировала в самом начале 1960-х гг. Этому предшествовал насыщенный экспедициями и поисками десятилетний период работ Б. Меггерс в Амазонии и Эквадоре (19481958 гг.). Краткий очерк начала научного пути североамериканской исследовательницы позволяет проследить основные этапы формирования тематики и географии ее научных интересов, а также подходов к анализу массового археологического материала.
