Artistic Techniques in the Works of Nikolai Oleynikov: Metabola and De-construction

Abstract

The article describes the features of artistic techniques in the works of Oleynikov, identified on the basis of the analysis of poetic texts of 1928-37. Oleynikov's poetry is of great interest due to its insufficient study despite the fame of the author's name. This is explained, on the one hand, by the deliberate frivolity and parody of the poems, which seems unlikely to instigate a thorough consideration of the mechanisms of text creation, on the other hand, by the very attitude of the author to his object of creation, which he uses as a utilitarian everyday tool, "mocking" the sacredness of the act of creativity itself. A detailed structural and semiotic analysis of  Oleynikov's poems reveals the following: the poet, wishing to get to the root cause of existence, dismantles one by one the accrued verbal layers of the signified and discovers either nothing, emptiness, or some indivisible, non-binary artistic image. The article examines the emergence of metabola and deconstruction in Oleynikov's poetry.
