Abstract

The article discusses the ways and possibilities of interpreting the ideas of Zen Buddhism in the humanities of the 70s in the USSR. Interest in this issue has always been present in the cultural paradigm of the Soviet Union, but in this period, the process took place in the conditions of the need to achieve mutual understanding between cultures. The complication of cultural forms and processes required overcoming Eurocentrism as the only image of culture present in the humanities of that time, an analysis of other cultural traditions that were proposed by Zen Buddhism. The authors of the article show how the concepts of Zen Buddhism were "translated" into the language of their own culture, and how they were interpreted in Western and domestic culture.
