RELIGIOUS IDENTITY OF YOUTH IN THE BORDER REGIONS OF SIBERIA: EDUCATION AND PRACTICES OF PARTICIPATION IN RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES IN THE CONDITIONS OF THE NEW POST-SECULAR REALITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article analyzes the religious identity of young people in the border regions of Siberia, studies the mechanisms of religious education and practices of participation in religious communities in the context of the new postsecular reality. The relevance of the study is due to the complex transformations of identification processes in the era of globalization, migration and cultural pluralism, when traditional forms of affiliation are intertwined with new, hybrid and individualized ones. The empirical base of the study consisted of the results of a sociological survey of young people (2025, Altai Krai, Altai Republic, Tyva Republic, Republic of Buryatia, Zabaikalsky Krai, N = 900 people aged 18-35 years). Religious identity of modern youth in the studied regions is a heterogeneous and multidimensional phenomenon. Young people predominantly belong to the category of "religious" both from the standpoint of self-assessment of religious identity and on the basis of the Huber Religiosity Centrality Scale (CRS). "Religious" youth hold democratic views on raising children in a religious context, while "highly religious" youth are characterized by a serious attitude toward religious issues, particularly the upbringing of children. Forms of participation in religious community activities vary slightly depending on region of residence, from maximum involvement in community activities among "highly religious" youth in the Altai Republic and Zabaikalsky Krai to a variety of activities within the religious community in Altai Krai. It is shown how religion "penetrates" everyday life through activities relevant to young people, adapting to their interests and lifestyles, clearly demonstrating the integration of religion into secular space.
