ANCIENT CITIES AND DISASTERS OF NORTHWESTERN MONGOLIA (RESULTS OF EXPEDITIONARY WORK IN 2023)
Abstract
According to long-term research, the Ubsunur basin of Northwestern Mongolia is an area of ancient agriculture. In the valley of the Tes-Khem river, the main watercourse of the basin, there are numerous traces of ancient settlement sites associated with land plots. Within one of the ancient cities found by the author in 2013 on the west coast of Lake. Ubs-Nur, large millstones were present, which makes it possible to attribute similar objects recognized in satellite images to agricultural settlements. Large settlement sites are being decrypted throughout the river valley. Tes. On the eastern edge of the Ubsunur basin in the valley of the there was an identification of an object with traces of an ancient city that, according to decoding, was subjected to an earthquake and flood. In the summer of 2023, with the permission of the administration of the locality of Tes, aimag Zavkhan, Northwestern Mongolia, an expedition took place to the area of the city recognized on satellite images to confirm the results of decryption, detection of the city and traces of catastrophic seismic events.
