CERAMICS WITH SERRATED ORNAMENTS IN THE MEDIEVAL ARCHAEOLOGY OF KUZBASS AND ADJACENT TERRITORIES
Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the element of ornament, which was revealed on medieval ceramic dishes in the Kuznetsk basin and Gornaya Shoriya. The materials of field research of 21 archaeological sites, the location of which is indicated on the map of Kuzbass, are published. The mapped objects are located near the mountain ranges of the Salair Ridge and Kuznetsk Alatau and in the Mountain Shoria, in the basins of the Inya and Tom rivers. The greatest concentration of sites is recorded in the southern part of the Kuznetsk basin, rich in iron ores. The serrated element of the ornament appeared in this region in the developed Middle Ages and continued to exist until the 18th century. The appearance of ceramic dishes decorated with a serrated element in Kuzbass is associated with migration flows that could have different sources. A comparison of the studied ceramic tableware with materials from the adjacent territories of the Upper Ob region allowed us to conclude that it was actively distributed in this region during the developed Middle Ages. Hypotheses are made about the genetic roots of the studied element of the ornament with the Kulai archaeological culture and its carriers associated with the iron industry.
