ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES OF THE ALTAI VARIANT OF THE KULAISKAYA CULTURE IN THE ITKUL LAKE AREA
Abstract
The article summarizes all the materials of the Altai variant of the Kulaiskaya culture from the Itkul archaeological microdistrict for the first time. Out of 56 sites known in this area, 10 can be attributed to the Altai variant of the Kulaiskaya culture. Five more might also be related but only according to their planographic features, which are quite stable for the sites of such cultural and chronological attribution. Even though the sites are well-known, materials from some of them have not been published yet. For the first time, the article introduces scientific circulation materials from multilayer non-stratified sites, which were identified on the basis of typological analysis (Kostenkova Izbushka, Korovya Pristan-3, Dergach and Ozerki Vostochnye). The materials of the Malyi Itkul-1 / 3 settlement are republished on a larger scale, since their initial publication did not reflect the features of the complex. Based on the analysis of the materials, a conclusion has been drawn about the massive settlement of the shores of Bolshoi and Malyi Itkul Lakes and the Itkul River basin by representatives of the Altai variant of the Kulaiskaya culture at the Fominskii stage, in early 2nd century. The presence of early Sarovskii elements in the ceramic complex indicates that the population of the Altai variant of the Kulaiskaya culture was familiar with the region at an earlier, Sarovskii stage.
