PORCELAIN WITH A PATTERN “STRAW FLOWERS” FROM THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS OF THE CITY OF TOBOLSK (BASED ON THE MATERIALS OF THE BIBLIOTECHNIY AND VOSKRESENSKIY EXCAVATIONS)
Abstract
The article is devoted to the attribution of porcelain tableware with an underglaze cobalt plant pattern “straw flower”, discovered in the historical territory of the city of Tobolsk during archaeological excavations. 15 fragments of porcelain items (from 7 cups and 2 saucers) from the area of the Bibliotechniy and Voskresensky excavations are analyzed. Fragments of tableware were found in layers of the second half of the 18th century, which is confirmed by numismatic material. A description of the morphological and artistic features of fragments of porcelain found in Tobolsk is given. Analysis of the marks present on two Tobolsk finds allowed us to suggest that they could be either European imports (in particular, products of the Meissen Manufactory or other porcelain manufactories that imitated it) or products of F. Gardner from the Moscow region. In addition, familiarity with the history of the formation of the “straw” pattern indicates that the first examples of ribbed dishes with this ornament could have appeared at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory between 1720 and 1740. Therefore, the question of the need to revise the attribution and dating of a number of archaeological finds of porcelain with the “straw flowers” pattern from the territory of Western Siberia has been raised.
