Ethnographer, theorist of movement in anthropology, documentary filmmaker; President of the Russian Anthropological Film Festival; Laureate of the 2019 State Prize in Science and Technology for his contribution to the study of the cultural heritage of Arctic peoples.

Founder of the scientific school of anthropology of movement. Main areas of research: anthropology of movement, history and theory of colonization, nomadology, ethnophenomenology, mythology, and film anthropology. Theoretical developments are combined with empirical research (including expeditionary fieldwork).
