Review of the monograph by K. M. Baipakov "Ancient and medieval urbanization of Kazakhstan (on the materials of researches of the South Kazakhstan complex archaeological expedition)"

Abstract

The publication presents a critical analysis of the four-volume monograph "Ancient and medieval urbanization of Kazakhstan (materials of researches of the southern-Kazakhstani complex archaeological expedition)", prepared by academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. M. Baipakov. The article reveals the nature of the source base on which K. M. Baipakov considering features of the urbanization process on the territory of Kazakhstan in the era of late antiquity and the middle ages. Special attention is paid to the introduction of scientists into the scientific circulation of new archaeological sources, obtained during long-term field studies of various sites in Central Asia. The review emphasizes that K. M. Baipakov managed to compile a huge array of historical sources to draw data from a variety of sciences, including natural science character. As a result, in this fundamental work, the researcher was able to present not only the development of urban architecture in different periods, but also reveal the specific nature of socio-economic relations and religious life of the population of the vast part of the Central Asian.
