Аннотация

Catalytic oxidation of pine wood (Pinus sylvestris) with oxygen produces high yields of vanillin. The influence of mass transfer intensity on the oxidation process rate and selectivity has been little studied. It was shown that size of wood particles (fractions less than 2 mm) does not significantly affect the rate of oxidation or the maximum yield of vanillin. The highest recorded yields (up to 35–36 wt.% based on the initial lignin) exceeded those obtained from pine wood oxidation with nitrobenzene (23–27 wt.%). The high vanillin yields were confirmed by weight analysis, GLC, 1H NMR methods. The results obtained indicate that in order to attain high vanillin yields from native lignin oxidation with oxygen it is sufficient to use sawdust with a fineness of 2 mm or less, and finer grinding the wood is not required. Vibrational wet milling disrupts the anatomic porous structure of wood, increases resistant to oxidation and decreases vanillin yield.
