N.S. GULYAEV ARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTION AT THE A.V. ANOKHIN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE ALTAI REPUBLIC: HISTORY OF ACQUISITION AND CURRENT STATE
Abstract
Among the materials that formed the basis for the creation of the collections of the current A.V. Anokhin National Museum of the Altai Republic (Gorno-Altaysk, Russia), there was a sufficiently representative and culturally and chronologically diverse archaeological collection of the Barnaul local historian and amateur archaeologist Nikolai Stepanovich Gulyaev (1851–1918). Due to the historically developed military-political and economic situation in the country, the collections of the Gulyaev family were sold to the Kara-Korum Altai Zemstvo Administration in 1918. In the subsequent period, a significant part of the archaeological collection and almost all the documentation were lost. Based on archival and published materials, the authors provide an overview of the available information about the events that occurred, the composition, and the context of the formed collection to understand the history of its acquisition by the museum. In this regard, a black-and-white photograph from open sources is of great importance, depicting N.S. Gulyaev with part of his archaeological collection displayed on boards. The article briefly analyzes its current composition in the collections of the A.V. Anokhin National Museum of the Altai Republic, indicates its preservation status, and the aspects of the work already carried out for further publication of the identified finds. In this context, the problems of their origin and cultural-chronological identification are considered.
