THE ARROWHEADS FROM THE MAIMA-VII SITE
Abstract
The presented article examines a series of arrowheads originating from the Maima-VII complex in the northern foothills of Altai. Previously, this material was only partially published, therefore, its introduction into scientific circulation is an urgent task. The collection in question is quite representative and includes 36 items. Currently, most of them are kept in the collections of the Anokhin National Museum of the Altai Republic. Most of them are made of organic materials (bone, horn), but there are also specimens made of bronze and iron. The paper provides the history of the study of the site itself and detailed characteristics of the objects. Their classification scheme is proposed, and analogies are given for each of the identified types to clarify the time of their existence. The Maima-VII burial ground is multi-temporal, which makes it possible to trace the evolution of this category of inventory within a single local territory. At the same time, it is a closed complex, therefore, according to the burial data, a combination of different shapes of arrowheads in quiver sets is established and the most common types are distinguished.
