Literary and Dialectal Linguistic Identity as an Embodiment of Folklife and Linguistic Culture

Abstract

The article studies the case of a particular literary and dialectal creative linguistic identity (LI), the inhabitant of stanitsa Starotitorovskaya of Krasnodar region, to establish the validity of reviewing the rural literate representatives, who are influenced by general fiction, mass media texts. At the same time, they are familiar with folklore; since the childhood they have adopted traditions, ethical, esthetical and linguistic standards of dialect community, as representatives of traditional folklife and linguistic culture. The author reviews creative activity of a LI to generate texts in subdialects, consistent with the folklore genre of urban legend. Compilation work on creating the collection of proverbialisms and phraseological units, constituting the personal proverbial and phraseological pool of the LI, as well as lexicographical work on preparation of dictionary materials for professional dialectologists is analysed. The conclusion is made on a developed metalinguistic consciousness of the LI, manifested in the ability to differentiate dialect words and understand the importance to fix the word’s place in the lexical system of the subdialect. The ability to spontaneously provide necessary informational contexts is studied, as well. In conclusion, the author stresses the idea to develop types particular of peasant speech etiquette among contemporary rural population and then to describe these types of LIs.
