Human Science in the Pandemic Era: Rerview of the XVIII International Scientific Conference "Onomastics of the Volga Region"

Abstract

The article describes the range of onomastic research presented at the XVIII International scientific conference "Onomastics of the Volga region". This conference was held on September 9-10, 2020 in the Kostroma city on the basis of Kostroma State University. For more than fifty years, it has united onomastics researchers from Russia and countries of the near and far abroad. Reports on the theory and methods of onomastic research, various aspects of the study of various categories of proper names, sources of onomastic research, and onomastic periphery were delivered and discussed at the plenary and breakout sessions of the conference. For the first time, sacred onomastics was included in the range of issues discussed. The organizing committee and the conference participants noted the difficult conditions of the infection pandemic of COVID-19 in which the conference was held, however, the fact that the annual meeting of onomastics researchers took place suggests that onomastics, the science of man and for man, is a truly demanded and relevant branch of modern linguistics.
