Grammar of Modern Russian Poetry: Subjective Perspective, Predicative Categories, Modus Frames (Part II)

Abstract

The articles is devoted to grammatical properties of the Modern Russian poetry which are connected with predicative categories, subjective perspective and modus frames. The grammatical devices mentioned above are viewed in their interconnection with the essential features of modern poetic texts: their subjectivity, multiplicity of interpretation, modal possibility, multiple reference, suggestiveness, double division, increased successiveness, small volume and originality of motives. The results of the linguistic analysis are compared to the authors' reflections, expressed in poetic texts, interviews, reviews, etc. It provides a possibility to assess the value of the grammatical phenomena under study to express the leading ideas of a particular epoch. These results stress the significance of the subject as the category of both expression and content planes, this category being the centre of all other grammatical categories (time, modality, space,location). «The grammar of poetry» is hence treated not as the grammar of deviations, irregularities opposed to the traditional grammar of the language, but as realization and reconsideration of potential functions and as filling inthe lacunae found in the grammatical system of the language. It is carried out by a particular group of this language native speakers to create new contents and forms, both eternal and modern ones. The authors of the articlepay much attention to the infinitival and nominative poetry displaying the creative potential of verbal forms and of nouns, Nominative Case, respectively, as well as to the peculiarities of negative sentences functioning in poetic texts.
